OUR HISTORY
Making up the smaller percentage of the student body, some African-American students decided that York College should have its own club. It's roots began as the Afro-American Club sometime around 1979. These students went through the process of lobbying through student senate to be recognized as a student organization on campus. Sometime later the name change to BSU which meant Black Student Union. The Black Student Union worked hard priding themselves on their community service efforts and their work around campus. In 2001, the BSU saw it fit to change it's name to UNITY as the campus became more diverse to encourage all ethnic minorities and everyone alike to join the group and become apart of the unification process.
OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
For about 7-8 years now UNITY has been hosting a fashion show in hopes to support the Monica Woodard Scholarship Fund. The scholarship was established in September of 1979. The purpose of the fund was and is to memorialize one of the Unity Club's most active and dedicated members and to inspire and aid a minority student in his or her pursuit of higher education.
Unity also works closely with Cripus Attucks Community Center, frequently putting in hours to help the young children in the community further their education through fun games and activities and sessions about life that are not in school curriculums but every child needs to know.
